Alec McLean (born 18 October 1950 in Wellington, New Zealand) is a former New Zealand rower who won an Olympic Bronze medal. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal he crewed the eight along with Tony Hurt, Ivan Sutherland, Trevor Coker, Peter Dignan, Lindsay Wilson, Athol Earl and Dave Rodger and Simon Dickie (cox).
Member of New Zealand rowing eight 1974 - 1976. Bronze medallist at World Rowing Championships, Lucerne, Switzerland 1974; bronze medallist at World Rowing Championships, Nottingham England, 1975.
A long-serving Parliamentary private secretary to Prime Ministers and Ministers in the New Zealand Government until November 2008, Alec is currently deputy official secretary to the Governor-General of New Zealand.
Alec was made a member of the Queen's Service Order (QSO) in the New Zealand 2009 New Year Honours for services to New Zealand.
